My goal is to provide you with useful information about every day technology applications for your home, especially digital media.
Topics and reviews will mostly focus on digital audio and video distribution throughout the home and the underlying technology.
Imagine sitting on the deck or the back yard with your iPod touch or iPhone, with wireless control of the music being played on the deck and in the kitchen. Then, using the same device, starting a movie in the basement for the kids to watch. All wireless, from anywhere in your home (and even away from home).
I'm a computer engineer by profession, but I'm also a regular-guy with a normal family that wants to enjoy the benefits (and luxuries!) of technology, but doesn't want to be bothered by the "complications". Thus, in each article and "how-to" I will give you an index on each part of a technology or project indicating the simplicity of each part of the process.
My goal is to have make thing simple enough for the whole family to use, and straightforward enough for anyone to setup (though some may require the assistance of your teenager)!
The first article (coming soon) will discuss a general overview of the following technologies and products I've been
- Boxee
- PlayON
- TVersity
- iPhone/iPod
- WiFi/Networking/DD-WRT
- AppleTV
- TiVo
- DirecTV
- AirPlay
- DLNA
- Windows MediaCenter
- Mac OSX
- Ubuntu

I need help. Don't know how to hook all this stuff up (Netgear 37AV router, PHD full 1080p Media Box, some 50 feet cat six cables to go from office/computer to living room and bedroom.) This internet TV is so new no one is installing them. I'm confused about a couple of things. How do I get some reliable information about hookup. Mitch
ReplyDeleteThe typical setup for this would be to disconnect all of your network cables from your cable modem or DSL modem.
ReplyDeleteAttach your router to your cable modem or DSL modem using the included network cable, then follow the setup process included with your router.
One its setup, then attach all of the devices on your network to the router using your cat6 cables (including your media box)
The media box presumably will be near your TV and connected via Component cables or HDMI cables.
Once you've got it all hooked up you should be ready to use your media box. Let me know the brand/model and I may be able to help with more info.
