Boxee Box's New Features

In my excitement about the Boxee Box pre-orders starting yesterday, I overlooked 4 great new features mentioned in the Product Description on Amazon that are quite noteworthy (and not in the free beta version)

1) When users of the free beta get their Boxee Box and sign-in... "the Boxee Box by D-Link will automatically import your account – making your favorite TV shows, movies apps, and shortcuts instantly available. Booyah."  That "Booyah" is a direct quote from the Boxee Box marketing team, but I second it -- "Booyah!"

2) It's an RF remote!  Double-Booyah! (ok that "booyah" was mine).

3) Looks like there's some new premium pay-per-view services that will be available based on the following quote: "If we can’t find it for free, the Boxee Box will connect you with premium options who can, instantly.

4) Facebook/Twitter feeds (and it implies to me that you will even be able to post to facebook and  tweet using the QWERTY remote on your big screen but I am reading between the lines on that one...)

I'd love to see statistics of how many new Boxee beta users downloaded and signed-up in the past 24 hours!

Google TV and the new Apple TV will probably both be available before the Boxee Box is shipped, but I don't think that matters.  Who wants to pay $1.00 for each show you watch (besides Apple)?  Who wants a solution that even further ties you to a cable or satellite (besides Google and Dish Network)?  To be fair, I've not had a chance to see either Google TV or the new Apple TV in action and as soon as they are available to review, I will thoroughly evalute them.

Based on the features that are important to me, though, I'm predicting Boxee Box (and the consumer) as the winner of this horse-race.

  1. Does your beta box have netflix?

  2. TO be clear, I don't have a Beta of the Boxee Box (though I wish I did!).

I have the Beta software running on Windows 7 (which anyone can download and run on Mac, Windows, or Ubuntu).

The Mac and Windows versions both support NetFlix. Ubuntu doesn't.

We all will find out in 48 hours or less if Boxee was able to get permission to release Netflix on the Boxee Box!

    Make sense?
